Qi Kwan Do Courses

Level 1 Coaching: Foundation in Coaching QI KWAN DO

For: Assistant Instructors and New Instructors
Duration: 3hrs

Description: Clearly defines coaching and introduces the basic components of coaching sessions.Including sections on the roles, responsibilities and qualities of a coach, it is an ideal introduction for new and existing coaches. The emphasis is to outline safe and ethical coaching practice with specific focus on the Code of Conduct for Sports Coaches.

Course Aims
The course provides coaches with an introduction to the principles and practice of safe, ethical and effective coaching of players of all ages. The course qualifies the coach to act as an assistant to a more qualified coach. The Level 1 Certificate in Coaching sports aims to develop a coach's ‘How to Coach’ skills as well as improve their 'What to coach Skills'.

Objectives

Describe the Learning and Coaching Process
Identify the roles and responsibilities of a coach
Describe the competencies of a coach
Identify good coaching practice
Identify and explain their own coaching style
Assess their own communication skills and action plan to increase their effectiveness
Identify how to build and maintain good relationships

Practical & Assessment
Demonstrate the coaching of a warm-up exercise
Demonstrate the coaching of a training technique
Produce a self assessment of their coaching & communication skills and an action plan for their own further development

Level 2 Coaching: Certificate in Coaching QI KWAN DO

For: Club Instructors
Duration:
4hrs

Description: The course includes sections on planning, organising and delivering sessions. Featuring everything you need to be an effective coach, the emphasis is on detailing the fundamental components of the coaching process – to Plan, Deliver and Evaluate.  

Course Aims
Building on the Level 1 Certificate the course develops greater depth of knowledge of the sports coaching and the principles and practice of safe, ethical coaching of players of all ages.The course qualifies the coach to ‘Prepare for, deliver and review coaching session(s)’.

Objectives

Theory
Construct the Planning, Preparation and Evaluating of Coaching Sessions
Identify the factors required in running effective training sessions
Identify requirements for going to competitions and events with participants 
Describe effective methods of giving feedback on performance
Describe how we can monitor the physical and mental condition of participants
Identify appropriate information to plan coaching sessions
Identify techniques to develop participants’ performance
Identify what is required to provide safe and effective coaching sessions
Identify what is required to establish a safe environment for coaching

Practical & Assessment
Produces a Lesson/Session Plan
Demonstrate teaching a training technique (EDIP)
Produce a self evaluation of current their current teaching/coaching sessions and an action plan for implementation of improvements.

Level 3 Coaching: Diploma in Coaching QI KWAN DO

For: Head of clubs or associations
Duration:
6hrs

Course Aims
To provide candidates who have an ongoing involvement in sports with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to deliver a coaching programme and demonstrate their coaching ability. The level 3 courses offer an opportunity for candidates to learn how to effectively apply the principles of performance profiling, goal setting and designing, planning and evaluating a training programme and practice.It also aims to enable the candidate to create an effective coaching environment, establish supportive working relationships and manage the behaviour of players and others. This is achieved through an understanding and the application of the underpinning knowledge of the Level 2 Coaching, plus expanding on areas of Teaching and Instruction.

Holding the Level 3 Diploma enables the coach to teach the Level 1 course (or other Level 1 MASTARR Courses) within their own sports club/organisation.

Most of the subjects covered in Level 1 & 2 plus:

Plan the structure of a training programmes
Identify different teaching styles
Describe how different resources can be utilised in teaching
Describe the need for the training to meet the learners needs and learning styles
Practical & Assessment

Practical & Assessment
Demonstrate teaching a training technique (EDIP)
Produce a written report on one of your lessons, describing the varied teaching styles and resources you use to meet the learners needs.
Produce a program of training for one of you adult classes and provide the rationale for its order.
Produce a self evaluation of your teaching & coaching program and produce an action plan for the implementation of your suggested improvements.

First Aid Course

This one day course is the minimum qualification for the ‘Appointed Person' in the workplace as outlined in the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

The course is suitable for nominated personnel and anyone who has an interest in improving their first aid knowledge and skills.

The course duration is a one day (six hour) course with certification upon full participation of all practical aspects of the session. Certificates are valid for three years.

The recommended maximum delegates on the course is 12 per trainer.
